Woodhall Manor 19th C to 20th C

The 1841 Census records John Clark (45), farmer; Jane Elisabeth (50), John (10), Jane (8), William (7), Francis (5), Mary (3), James (3 months) living at the Manor Farm. Following a series of mortgages it was sold at an auction to Thomas Stubbs by John Clark’s widow on 13th October 1859 for £2345.1

The 1861 Census records Thomas Stubbs (35) farmer & stone quarryman, and Ann Chamberlain (27) housekeeper, living at the Manor Farm.

Frank Howard Stubbs inherited Woodhall Manor farm from his father Thomas 2, and farmed there with his wife Sarah until his death in 1963.
The farm was sold as 3 lots: house, home field on Heath Road (sold for bungalows) and the barn 3. His daughters, Phyllis (Crowson) and Paddy (Rawlinson) lived in the village, and his grand-daughter, Ann Drewery, nee Rawlinson, has shared her memories, pictures and information about growing up in Woodhall Manor.
