The artesian bore at the junction of Woodgate and Woodgate End (Broad Wheel Road) was originally dug in 1896, and subsequently in 1909 following a reduction in the water pressure, a water pump was erected. In June 1954 following the installation of mains water around the village, this local landmark was dismantled.

Minutes of Helpston Parish Council recorded
‘For many years this pump gave very good service to the village but at present is was just an eyesore’.

The bore was capped and the cast iron cover bears the name of
A.C WOODROW & CO LONDON.
The cover is still clearly visible in the grassed area at the junction, in front of the Give Way sign.
