A new kiosk in 1938

Helpston Parish Council reported an item in the minutes of a meeting dated October 1938 relating to the newly erected kiosk.

Later in December 1938, a report appeared in the Peterborough Standard, 1 stating that ‘a telephone kiosk had been erected near the cross’. The model erected was the K6, launched to celebrate King George V Silver Jubilee.

Noted as an historic building, it was Grade 2 listed on 21st Jan 1994. 2

Telephone kiosk, Type K6. Designed 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Made by various contractors. Cast iron. Square kiosk with domed roof Unperforated crowns to top panels and margin glazing to windows and door.

In recent years the use of the kiosk declined and went out of use. In Spring 2021 a community group took over the use of the kiosk and now use it as a book exchange and seed swap.
